3D Printing Area Rules and FAQs
- Students utilizing the 3-D printers for non-academic/non-research projects are limited to 500 grams per semester. If you exceed this, please provide your own filament.
- you choose to use your own material, it MUST be PLA, ABS, or PETG from Bambu, Hatchbox, or Overture brands.
- If the printer runs out of filament, an AIS staff member will change it out for you.
- Clean off the build plate when your print is finished.
- Do not perform maintenance on the printers. We'll do that for you.
- Always check with an AIS staff member before beginning a print.
- Stay long enough to make sure your print starts correctly.
- All prints must be school appropriate (please use your best judgment).
- Do NOT directly touch the nozzle. It can be as hot as 300 degrees!
- Remember to remove the filament from the hot end when your print is finished.
Machine Shop Rules and FAQs
What are the shop hours?
8:00 – 12:00, 1:00 – 5:00 Monday – Friday
What are the shop safety rules?
- No shorts or short dresses (legs must be covered)
- No open-toed shoes
- Loose hair must be tied up
- No loose jewelry
What training is required?
- Demonstrate proficiency with hand tools and small power tools
- Formal training required for milling machines, lathes, and saws
- Complete ET-217 or CNC micro-credential workshop for CNC centers
What help is available at the shop?
